Bulk Unsub Tool — last updated September 2026
Bulk Unsub Tool ("the extension") is a Chrome extension that lets you view and
unsubscribe from your YouTube channel subscriptions in bulk. This page explains
what data the extension accesses and how it is used.
What data we access
When you click "Connect and load my subscriptions," the extension asks you to
sign in with your Google account through Google's own sign-in screen. You
explicitly grant (or deny) access — the extension never sees your Google
password.
Once authorized, the extension uses the official
YouTube Data API v3
with the youtube.force-ssl scope to:
- Read the list of channels you are subscribed to (channel name, description, thumbnail, subscription date)
- Remove subscriptions you explicitly select for unsubscribing
What we don't do
- We do not operate any server. The extension talks directly, from your browser, to Google's own API — no data passes through us or any third party.
- We do not collect, sell, or share your data with anyone.
- We do not use analytics, tracking, or advertising of any kind.
- We do not access your email, contacts, or any other Google data outside of YouTube subscriptions.
Data storage
Your subscription list is temporarily kept in your browser's session storage
(chrome.storage.session) so it survives closing and reopening the
extension window. This data is automatically erased when you close your
browser and is never sent anywhere outside your own device.
Data protection
We apply the following measures to protect your data, including the sensitive
data accessed through the youtube.force-ssl scope:
- Encryption in transit — every request between your browser and Google's YouTube API is made over HTTPS/TLS. We never transmit data over an unencrypted connection.
- No persistent storage — we do not operate a server or database. Your subscription list exists only in your browser's temporary session storage and is erased automatically when you close your browser. Nothing is written to disk or stored remotely by us.
- Credential security — your Google sign-in and OAuth access token are handled entirely by Chrome's built-in Identity API. The extension never sees, stores, or transmits your Google password.
- Narrowest scope — we request only the
youtube.force-ssl scope, the minimum needed to list and remove subscriptions. We cannot access your email, contacts, Drive, or any other Google data.
- No third-party access — data flows exclusively between your browser and Google's own servers; it is never routed through, or made accessible to, us or any other party.
Permissions used
- identity — to sign you in with your Google account via OAuth.
- storage — to temporarily keep your loaded subscription list during your browsing session.
- system.display — to correctly size and position the extension's window on your screen.
- Host permission (googleapis.com) — to call the YouTube Data API.
Revoking access
You can revoke the extension's access to your Google account at any time from
myaccount.google.com/connections.
